This is my little bridesmaid doll. If knitted with 2.25mm knitting needles (US size 2) she will only be 11.5cm tall. You can knit with 3mm needles if you prefer, the doll will be 13.5cms tall.

We have had two Royal weddings this year in the UK, so I have based my design around the bridesmaid dresses that were worn on these days.

The legs, body & head is knitted all in one. The arms do not require toy stuffing. The belt uses alternating stitches of green & pink. The head dress uses picot stitch to show off the green & pink stitches.

I have used the green & pink wool to do simple embroidery.

The pattern is very simple to knit and the colours can be changed if required.

Doll Knitting Pattern

The head dress is edged with a picot stitch

Embroidery is used along the hemline of the skirt

Green & pink has been used to compliment the white

The doll is only 11.5cms tall

'Twisted Knit Tweed Stitch'

I am currently looking at patterns that use texture and contrasting colours. I have used a twisted knit tweed stitch in this design. Of course, thinking about the colours of a tweed pattern, I have used a light brown and green to reflect the history behind tweed.

It is believed that tweed originates from Scotland, used as farmer's clothing. It is later recognised as a style used for hunting wear for the gentry & royalty.

The stitches used in this pattern are: knit, purl & knit into the stitch below. This knitting into the stitch below, creates the twist in the pattern.

I have used two contrasting colours

'Lattice Stitch'

I wanted to try and learn more about texture and use new stitches, rather than just knit & purl stitches.

The lattice stitch uses two contrasting colours The stitches include: knit, purl & slip. The yarn is forward & backwards throughout the pattern and picks up the white yarn to make a stitch.

I love this pattern, but it does require reading the pattern well and writing down each row you knit.

This pattern reminds me of Tudor patterns used during that time.

This pattern is for an Advanced knitted

Stitches include: knit, purl, slip & pick up and make a stitch

Red Poppy Knitting Pattern
I love knitting motifs into my designs and I know from talking to people about knitting that they like to learn new skills. So, my bookmark designs are short projects with new skills, but quick enough to make something for yourself, or as a gift. It is also a great way to use up your scraps of wool or recycle wool. They would make brilliant quick knits for community craft stalls.

As we remember 100 years of the end of WWI in the UK, on November 11th 2018, I thought using a poppy design would be suitable.

I have used three colours and the wool is weaved into the back of the work, like Fair Isle knitting. The bookmark is made up of two pieces and sewn together. It is knitted on 3mm knitting needles, so not too thick for a book. There is a chart of the motif that comes with this pattern.
The motif is knitted from a chart

Anne Boleyn

Anne Boleyn was the second wife of Henry VIII, an English Tudor King. She was born C1501, in Blickling Hall, Blicking, Norfolk, UK.

In 1522, Anne was sent to the Royal Court to become a lady-in-waiting for Henry's first wife, Catherine of Aragon.
Catherine was unable to produce an heir for the King, he appealed to Pope Clement VII, to annul his marriage, so he could marry Anne.

This was not granted, so Henry VIII broke away from the Catholic Church & declared himself to be the head of the Anglican Church.

King Henry VIII
Anne & Henry married in secret, Anne was already expecting her first child. Elizabeth, later to become Queen Elizabeth I, was born in 1533. Following two more miscarriages, Henry felt his marriage was a curse. Henry VIII started an affair with Jane Seymour, Anne's lady-in-waiting & wanted to end his marriage to Anne.

Anne was accused of adultery & witchcraft. She was eventually imprisoned. On the 19th May, 1536, Anne was executed at The Tower of London.

Catherine of Aragon

Henry VIII was an English Tudor King. He was born at Greenwich Palace, London on the 28th June 1491.

Henry had six wives:
Catherine of Aragon - Spanish - Divorced
Anne Boleyn - English - Beheaded
Jane Seymore - English - Died
Anne Cleeves - Flemish-Belgian - Divorced
Catherine Howard - English - Beheaded
Catherine Parr - English - Outlived Henry

Henry died, aged 55 years old, on 28th January 1547 at St. James's Palace, London.
Henry VIII was inspired to write 'Greensleeves' because of this dress
