Aster is named after an autumn flower grown in Britain. Aster is a Greek word meaning 'star'. Aster is also a birth flower for September. The giving of birth flowers was thought to have originated from the time of the Roman Empire. The meaning of Aster is: Love, Faith, Wisdom, and symbolises Valour.
Aster wears a pleated skirt, detachable beret, and scarf. The scarf is knitted in moss stitch, and the beret has a large yellow bow on the side.

Christmas Doll

This is Anneka, she is a small rag doll, only 18cm tall. This is a bright & jolly Christmas elf doll based on the Scandinavian Julenisse.

The legs, body & head are knitted all in one. The skirt & hat are detachable. I have used a Danish Cross pattern throughout the design.

I have used the traditional colours of red & white for this design. This doll would look great on a Christmas tree or as part of a display.

Following the death of King William IV in 1837, the
United Kingdom entered the Victorian age. Queen Victoria was 18 years old when she inherited the throne. Her coronation was on the 28th June 1838 at Westminster Abbey, London.

I have used mostly stocking stitch throughout the doll, using simple fair isle knitting for the decoration around the edge of the skirt & the bodice. I have added a simple picot hem for the bottom of the skirt.

The legs, body & head are knitted all in one, which I believe makes knitting the doll simpler with fewer pieces to add during the construction of the doll.
