Stitching Projects - Knitting Journal - Oxford - January 2019

This year, 2019, I have decided to explore texture & colours in my knitting. I want to record this through a journal & be inspired by my home in the English countryside or places I have visited.

My project is inspired by Oxford. I was born in Oxford, and although I live 20 minutes away, I have lived here for all my life. I popped into the bookshop with my children one day, and as I came out, I quickly took a photograph of the ‘Sheldonian Theatre’.

I altered one of my photographs into a kaleidoscope image and decided to knit with the colours camel, brown, blue, and grey in my sampler.

I used ‘Basket Ribbed Stitch’ to make the square, which uses Knit, Purl & Slip Stitches.

As I enjoyed the colours so much, I wanted to design a tea cosy. I chose camel, brown, and blue and knitted them in ‘Texture Tweed Stitch’.

I have used the 'Twisted Tweed Knit Stitch' for this pattern. The pattern is worked in DK wool, using double thread throughout. You can use chunky wool if desired.

Using double thread, combined with the texture of the stitch, this makes the cosies thick & padded, which will keep the teapot & egg warm.

I wanted to keep the design very simple, but focus more on the texture & contrasting colours. It was also an opportunity to learn a new stitch, which proves very versatile for this design.

This pattern comes with a basic knitting instructions booklet for beginners.
