I wanted to learn a couple of new skills this year, 2019. I decided on improving my knitting skills, exploring texture & colour, I also wanted to learn 'Blackwork', something I have wanted to do for many years.
Blackwork Journal - 2019
This month, I want to work on traditional blackwork. I found a portrait of Mary Tudor & wanted to base my design on the detailed work on her collar.
Russian Blackwork Design
This design is adapted from the corner of a 19th Century Russian linen towel. The towel is part of the Embroiderers' Guild collection. The original pattern is embroidered in pink silk on linen.
Stitching Journal - November 2019
I was inspired by the blackwork of the collar from the portrait of Mary Tudor (1516 - 58), which is at The National Portrait Gallery, London, UK.
