Stitching Project - Blackwork Journal - December 2019

I wanted to learn a couple of new skills this year, 2019. I decided on improving my knitting skills, exploring texture & colour, I also wanted to learn 'Blackwork', something I have wanted to do for many years.

Blackwork Journal - December 2019

Blackwork Flower

This month, I want to continue working on traditional blackwork. Last month, I worked from a portrait of Mary Tudor, basing my design around the collar. This month, I wanted to design my own pattern, with Tudor flowers in mind.

I started with a plain flower, with stem & leaves. but, soon realised that this will not make a geometric pattern. But, I do intend on using this next year.

Stitching Project - 2019

I used 14 count Cream Aida & DMC Black Embroidery Thread.

Mary Tudor
I was inspired by the blackwork of the collar from the portrait of Mary Tudor (1516 - 58), which is at The National Portrait Gallery, London, UK.

Blackwork Embroidery

My own blackwork design.

This concludes my Blackwork Journal, 2019.
